What is Solenoid Valve? Working, and its Type?

What is Solenoid Valve?  Working, and its Type?

In our home from the water, tank water comes to the tap and we have to operate manually, but in industry, we have to make it automation, so if the control of the flow is done automatically with the help of solenoid valve. The timing of open and close of the valve will be done by the PLC, pressure, and flow will be according to the valve capacity and selection.

The most common solenoid valve is the two-way valve, it has two ports, whereas more advanced design may have three or more ports. It depends on for what application it will be used, the design is specific like either a direct acting vale or pilot operated the valve.

One more important thing is that where there is a hydraulic system their solenoid valve is to be used.

There are two types of valve:
Direct Acting Solenoid valve,
Indirect-Acting Solenoid valve.

N.O
In ideal condition the valve is open and when the coil is energized then it is closed such valve is called N.O
N.C
In ideal condition the valve is Close then it is called N.C when the coil is energized then it opens such valve is Called N.C

Name the parts of the solenoid valve:
1) Electromagnetic Coil
A number of turns of the coil that is the solenoid, uniform magnetic field takes place on energized.
2) Connectors / supply 230, Ac/DC
3) Plunger
There is Piston, Guide, Guide end, shading ring, spring and a piston (with a rubber button at the bottom for sealing) in a plunger assembly. When the coil is energized then the piston is pulled up and opens the sealing area and valve opens and when the de-energized piston comes down and close the valve.
4) Valve Body and Cover
The body will have two ports inlet and outlet and material as per customer requirements, eg. CF8/CF8M, Brass, Aluminum, etc
5) Diaphragm
As per the media, diaphragm rubber is being selected. For eg. NBR, EPDM, Viton, etc…

Solenoid valves are used to control the rate of flow in fluid and air powered tools, systems, and motors. Washing machines and gas boilers use these valves, as well as hydraulic pumps and air hammers because they are diverse enough to perform both simple and complex tasks with ease. Solenoid valves can be customized to suit specific needs and can be utilized to control a variety of mediums such as air, electricity, gas, steam, and oil.
The most common solenoid valve is the two-way valve. A two-way valve only has two ports, whereas more advanced designs may have three or more, depending on what it will be used for. All solenoid valves, no matter the design, are specified to be one of two general types: either a direct acting valve or a pilot operated the valve.
1. Direct Acting Valves
In a direct acting solenoid valve, a coil magnetically opens the valve in direct action, lifting the shaft and the seat of the valve without depending on outside pressure.
2. Pilot-Operated Valves
In pilot operated valves, the plunger opens up the pilot opening while built-up pressure causes the valve to open and close.
Although piloted valves require less electrical energy to operate, they usually need to maintain full power in order to remain in an open state, and they perform at a slower rate than direct acting solenoids. Direct acting solenoid valves only need full power when opening the valve, as they can hold their open position even when operating on low power.
3. Two-Way Valves
Each of the two ports on a two-way valve is alternately used to permit flow as well as close it off. A two-way valve can be specified to be either “normally open" or “normally closed” in its operation. With a normally open valve, the valve remains open until some type of current is applied to close the valve. Suspension of the electrical power causes the valve to automatically reopen to its normal state. A normally closed solenoid valve is the most common, working in the opposite fashion, remaining closed until a power source causes it to open.
4. Three-Way Valves
Three-way valves come with three ports. These are commonly used when alternate and exhaustive pressure is required for operation, as with a coffee machine or dishwasher.
5. Four-Way Valves
These valves can have four or more port connections. Four-way valves are commonly used with a dual-acting cylinder or actuator. In this version, half of the port connections supply pressure, and the remaining connections provide exhaust pressure. You can specify these valves to be either normally closed, normally open or universal.

Please comment me if you want to know about other valves. I like to make videos as per your demands, Please like it share in social media and subscribe to my channel because I keep posting this kind of video in the future.
